crashing to ceiling in middle of trip to perch, so stopped. 

[26252] / 22083 / UNK / UNK -Much better initiative to fly all the way to other perch.
Completed exercise 8x, but started panting and other bird crashing, so stopped. 

I spread mice out between sides of enclosure. After exciting, heard larger bird fly
over to smaller bird's location and then a screech and tousle, and realized both
birds may have had a quick quarrel over mice. When I looked, both birds had mice
on opposite perches.

BARP, NOLO. Exercise was chaotic, lots of double laps and I couldn't see anyone's
band color. Smallest would take off first, (as soon as I started walking towards
perch) and flew easily. It was impossible to track exercise laps effectively, but

incident. 26130 required more encouagment to fly, but once commited to a full flight
could land accurately with some difficulty. No heavy panting noted, became grounded
once, able to quickly reperch.

attempts, but would frequently return to point of origin. After much encouragment,
made 1 full flight. After multiple aborted 2nd flights, became grounded and defensive.
Able to reperch on far side. Flights 3-5 went without incident, able to land accurately.
Required more encouragment for flight 6, flight was unsteady, lots of pitch and roll.
Flight 7 went without incident. Flight 8 required lots of encouragment and was also
unsteady. Flights 9 & 10 went without incident. No heavy panting noted.

The HY bird(orange) seemed to be struggling to fly. Was only able to make a full

Bird is BAR and eating well. A single tarsorrhaphy suture and the 3rd eyelid suture are still in place. 
Anesthetized and intubated. Removed the tarsorrhpay and 3rd eyelid flap, applied Proparacaine and stained OU. 
OD - fluorescein stain negative! OS = still stain uptake,lateral aspect, linear, about 3 mm long. Not sure how that compares to previously, definitely improved from 2 weeks ago. 
Discussed case w/ Sunny - I wonder if stress is causing this animal to not heal as well, along with excessive handling. 
Decided to keep hands off for a few days. Also, will d/c Meloxicam but add Gabapentin 10 mg/kg (perhaps will keep him quieter?).
Applied triple AB ointment OU for now. 
Recheck/ restain eyes Tuesday. If OS still positive start on BNP ointment BID, can handle less and will perhaps keep eyes moister. Dr Gardner

Checked today and both eyes are still positive. 
OD about 1/3 of the cornea laterally. OS - smaller area, about 2x5 mm, linear, lateral. 
Concerned about why these are not healing. I had thought that we were on the right path, but today it does not appear so. 
Anesthetized and intubated. Took pictures of both eyes (attached). 
Under the upper lid OS there was an odd white lesion - scar-like. Not sure if that is contributing to the linear stain uptake OS, it is in the same area. However, I would think the nictitans would protect against that. 
Applied Proparacaine and again debrided w/ Q-tips OU. 
Talking with Milan, decided to place a 3rd eyelid flap and temporary tarsorraphy, with the caveat that it is a long time since I have done this. 
See surgery report.

Drew about 2.5 ml of blood from bird, spun it down to get about 1.5 ml of serum. 
P: Serum BID, Moxifloxacin TID. Try to get the meds into the lateral canthus of OD, start back on Meloxicam. 
Need to check eye often. If the sutures are loosening up they need to be removed or they will rub the cornea. If either the tarsorraphy or the 3rd eyelid flap start to open they need to come out. 

There are two horizontal mattress sutures with knots dorsally to remove the tarsorraphy. 
The 3rd eyelid flap has one knot ventrally at the edge of the globe (so going through the skin where the globe curves into the socket). 
Sorry - they are undyed suture. That is what I grabbed! 
Check Wednesday, if flap is still up I can come by Sunday and check it. 
Will see if Dr Tracey can update me Wednesday. Dr Gardner

This bird was found beside a manure pond unable to fly away. 

We did not examine this bird today in an attempts to get her to bath a little on her own. Plan to conduct a full intake exam on the day that we bath her. Hopefully tomorrow or Thursday.
